True Beauty

In this day and age, we are constantly being told to lose more weight, dress less, and be like this and that celebrity so that you can attract guys. But as Christians, this isn't what God wants us to strive for. I'm not saying that we can't enjoy being beautiful or looking nice, but it shouldn't be our life goal. God is not concerned about what we look like on the outside; no, He's concerned about the condition of our hearts.

1 Peter 3:4-5 says, "You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quite spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful..." God considers a gentle, quiet spirit to be so attractive and precious. And as daughters of the King, we should want to please our Father.

You may be thinking, "yes, this is what God wants... but what about guys? Is it wrong for me to want attention from guys?"

No- it's not wrong. Every girl is made with the wish to be loved and desired, so it's natural for you to want attention. However, you need to decide what type of attention you want to attract to yourself. As a young woman of God, you should desire a guy who is chasing after God more than you. And if you are daily giving this to God, He will bring about the right guy who loves you for who you are in Christ, not just your outward appearance. My youth pastor once shared with us that a woman's heart should be so hidden in God that it takes a man seeking Him to find her.

As God's beautiful princess, your true beauty is found in your heart, not your outward appearance. Always remember that no matter what the culture or other people says, you are beautiful to the Lord. "You are all together beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you." (Song of Solomon 4:7)
