Music: a Choice

I want to share a few insights that I have learned about making wise choices for music:

My parents have always said, "What goes in will come out." That statement is so true. You might think that what you surround yourself with has no affect on your thoughts and actions, but it does. I've noticed that when I listen to mainstream music, my thoughts are filled with the things those songs talk about and I tend to focus more on myself. For a while, I kept telling myself, "well, this music isn't necessarily bad, so it's fine for me to listen to it." But in reality, all that non-Christian music accumulating in my mind drives me away from God. Some music I have listened to might have one or two bad words, but I just brush them off, saying, "oh it's just one word." But eventually, I will become desensitized to foul language and it will start coming out of my mouth, whether I mean to or not. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."
"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." 1 John 2:15-17. Loving the world and its ways are exactly the opposite of God's ways- we can't be both of the world and of God. So as Christians, we need to be totally on fire for God, focusing completely on our Father in Heaven. That means listening to music that will please Him.
One thing that I've noticed when trying to only listen to Christian music is that there aren't as many good Christian artists out there, and you really have to dig deep to find "good" music. Listening to the same songs on the Christian radio stations over and over and over again gets a little tiring! Here are few artists I found that have more modern taste in music but are Christian:
