Thanksgiving. What pops into your head when you hear that word? To be completely honest, I mostly think of Thanksgiving as a time to stuff myself with as much good food as I can and a day to skip over and head straight to Christmas. But if we stop for a minute- take a second from the self-indulgence of the day- and actually celebrate Thanksgiving, we might realize that this holiday is not just about eating and hanging out with family. Thanksgiving is the day that we are supposed to celebrate the many things we are blessed with.
So stop- take a minute and breath. Don't get so caught up in the craziness of life. Because when we do, we often forget how blessed we are and who blessed us so abundantly. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God through Christ in you." As Christians, Thanksgiving shouldn't just be a day of gratefulness, it should be a lifestyle of giving thanks to the God who has given us everything.
Psalm 100:1-5-
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
